NYC Trip - Color Purple on Broadway...

Seeing the Color Purple was a real treat! This was my first actual on "the real broadway" broadway show. We both enjoyed the production emensly. The songs were great. Hubby even bought the soundtrack for me. I plan on listening to it on the way to work tommorow. I love the song "The Color Purple", "I'm Here" and "What about Love?". Of course it was just like the movie, but there were a few things they touched on that weren't in the movie, that maybe were in the book? I really loved the lead actress, LaChanze she was great as Cellie. I don't think they made "Mister" be as bad as he really could have been... that I was a little disapointed in. I don't think that was dramatic enough. I enjoyed the African dancers and the set design was beautiful! It was a really great evening. I read today that "The Color Purple" has recieved 11 Tony nominations! Glad to see that this play is being recognized for it's greatness. If you go and see it and find that you enjoyed the music, purchase the music on CD. It's a wonderful CD and a great way to relive the moments. Posted by Picasa

Thanks fo the review, I am going in July. I read the book and loved the movie. I am glad the play is being recognized by the "Tonys" since the movie, which still moves me today after seeing it 1,000 times, was cheated by "Oscar".
